Mexico City, or CDMX as it’s sometimes called, is just a crazy vibrant spot, famed all around for having super amazing food. So, for many, going on a food tour, in order to check out local markets, is often high on the list. Is that trip really worth doing? Honestly, that’s the big question we’re looking at today. I, just like you, kinda wanted to experience the genuine tastes of Mexico, and checking out those markets? That really seemed like an alright path. Now, I want to share my thoughts to potentially help you, maybe, decide whether or not to hop on such a trip.
First Impressions and Booking
The first contact with the tour organizers really set the scene, actually. I booked my spot through their site, and the whole thing was pretty straightforward, seemingly. What really stood out to me, arguably, was how responsive they seemed. Any question, that I could think of, was replied to quite fast and also with a lot of information. You get that comfortable feeling they are prepared and ready for pretty much everything. The feeling of clarity, you know? The pricing seemed pretty fair, like considering what was being offered, at least. More or less, everything felt very set from the beginning.
Meeting Up and Starting the Adventure
So, meeting the tour group at the set location? That was actually a pretty smooth process. The guide? He was on time and extremely easy to spot. He was holding a little sign. From the beginning, what really helped, was he created a really inviting environment, truly. He gave, you know, a little introduction to the trip itself, as well as a few guidelines. Seemingly, our group consisted of people of various age ranges, too it’s almost as if people were from different parts of the planet, too. However, it felt like he worked to encourage interaction among participants. First impressions do, like, truly matter, so I felt alright right from the beginning.

Getting into the local markets themselves was just unreal, truly. It seemed every corner had something that grabbed your attention. What I mean, is, that one second you are gazing at heaps of colorful produce, next moment you have the chance to taste some kind of delicious local treat, just imagine. That sensory experience felt genuinely amazing, more or less. The guide, yet, he didn’t just walk us around. He actually shared bits and pieces of info regarding the history of each place, and also talked about quite a few of the foods we were having. Honestly, there were just extremely happy people that genuinely seemed ready to explain what they do. We sampled several salsas, all homemade. I did purchase a few ingredients at the end of the tour! That level of involvement was rather valuable, and that added a personal layer to that experience. That opportunity to hear their narratives? It really drove home that authenticity thing. The experience just turned out to be better that I had originally predicted, to be honest.
What Could Be Better?
No trip is absolutely flawless, okay? I do have a few small complaints about the whole trip, so you can consider all pros and cons. The markets that we were in? They were super busy, almost too busy! I do wish that there had been a few less people there, but yet again I understand we can’t all have things our way! Also, like, because we ate so much on the tour, it can be kind of a burden at some times. It would probably be better to only eat one small meal ahead of it to properly feel that full immersion experience! Very minimal, in that sense.
Value for Money
So, if you think about whether or not the money that you spent on this trip felt “worth it,” for me, it was completely justified, completely. Besides sampling amazing dishes, it allowed people to gain local-centered market exposure, too, as a bonus. When considering costs of a trip in CDMX, that is a super smart decision if you’re actually eager to eat real Mexican cuisine. The insight which the trip brings, coupled together with convenience, produces amazing value, like when compared with exploring yourself.
