Calgary to Emerald Lake & Takakkaw Falls Tour: A Detailed Review
Planning a trip from Calgary to see some ridiculously gorgeous natural sights? The ‘Calgary Emerald Lake Canoe Optional Takakkaw Fall Small Grp’ tour might just be something to look into, seriously. I took this tour not so long ago, and so I thought I’d break it all down for you. What was superb, what might need work, and stuff like that, is what I want to cover. If you’re trying to figure out whether or not this adventure fits your vacation plans, well, keep reading. I mean, honestly, everyone hypes these things up, so let’s check if this tour actually lives up to the, possibly overblown, hype.
First Impressions and Booking the Tour
Okay, from the jump, arranging this tour seemed pretty easy, just a little too simple maybe. The website, I will say, did look modern and straightforward. Information was super accessible which made sorting through different packages stress-free. It’s almost like the company put some thought into making the process smooth. You know, some tour sites are a nightmare? Yet this one actually wasn’t. The booking? Basically just clicking a few buttons, picking your date and boom, you’re supposedly set to go. Payment options looked secure enough which really, you kind of expect these days. You just worry regardless, am I right? Communications following the booking? Quick and informative. Any question I had? Answered super fast via email which made me feel better, that they wouldn’t just ghost me before the tour, basically. The price seemed reasonable compared to other similar tours, maybe a touch on the higher end, that’s arguable though, for what they promised was something special. That is something that is true, I did think the value might be good at the time.
The Ride from Calgary
So, the bus itself for our little band of travelers, you know, getting out of Calgary. The van wasn’t too crammed and was very comfy enough, important for the hours we were going to log. The driver also doubled as our guide. Very helpful because some of those guys don’t shut up. He was great at giving interesting info about the area. He also knew the area really, really well. This included little bits of history and interesting stuff about the wildlife we happened to glimpse on the way. This detail really amped up the whole thing and he was good, you know, even the forced jokes were fine! It was more or less what I’d anticipate for the scenic drive out. What do people want really, you know?
Experiencing Emerald Lake
The big moment: arriving at Emerald Lake. Listen, pictures seriously do not do this place fairness, not even close, actually. It felt unreal with its crazy vivid, glassy water that reflected the mountains all around. That was something special, let me tell you. They gave you the option to canoe. A definite “yes” from me on that, of course! Gliding on the water? Seriously so smooth, also so calm. I went off exploring all of the small corners of the lake. I even saw some super shy wildlife, not the least bit intimidating, surprisingly. The canoe rental spot did get quite busy which caused some delay getting on the water, like your classic tourist trap? I suppose. That was just a brief interruption, not very significant, it felt more magical than irritating, though.
Takakkaw Falls: Nature’s Raw Power
Takakkaw Falls was nothing if not crazy. Getting close you are able to basically feel the energy and that misty spray hitting you. This isn’t a gentle waterfall, more like nature just flexing and showing off, actually. Our guide filled us in on the details and the history and of the falls and surrounding area while we were checking it out, really contributing to everything. The short hike, you know, getting from the drop off to a solid viewing point, simple to do for like your regular person, that. Yet worth every bit to see those waterfalls. The Falls is seriously, like I mentioned, nature doing nature things! That’s why, to be frank, it’s basically unforgettable.
Food and Breaks
So, what about snacks? Good question! The tour does allow, so take note, designated break times. Pack some things, too. Stops for everyone to grab their own food and relax happened but weren’t what I was expecting. I guess pack your own provisions would be my advice, very solid advice at that. It wasn’t really bad. I suppose, it’s more about not having any unpleasantness from hunger impacting enjoyment.
Small Group Experience
Tour size definitely had something going for it. What I noticed first? It’s that a smaller tour group lets the guide deal more directly with those people in attendance. Getting around to the spots to see was more easier. Connecting and having interactions was way better, almost immediate to be fair, unlike those chaotic, you know, mega-tours, kind of like herding wild animals to be fair. Seriously recommend smaller scale operations in that area if it’s possible for the vacation in question.
Things that could be a little different
Look, no tour ever nails completely everything perfectly right? A couple spots I thought they could adjust to boost it would be like this. You know, the scheduling felt just a tad tight, possibly needed breathing space so to speak, especially at Emerald Lake. I am sure most wanted extra time there and that includes yours truly. The food stops could have potentially a little more planning to showcase some of the neat, small food businesses around, but then that wasn’t the point, to be fair. Maybe some little tiny things to sort out, sure, for that next version of it perhaps.
Overall Value and Recommendation
To summarize, the Calgary to Emerald Lake & Takakkaw Falls tour is quite enjoyable. It really does get to showcase nature’s amazing stuff which makes everything, well, that bit more amazing, that, which you obviously like! The guide who was with us made everything superb plus added a huge punch, seriously contributing quite a lot, actually. A few tiny problems, I guess. It’s really worth considering if experiencing Emerald Lake and Takakkaw Falls tops your to-do list. It’s almost certain you will enjoy it!
