So, getting to Ban Chik Organic Farm is an experience in itself, you know? It’s, actually, a little bit out of the way, maybe about a 30-45 minute drive from the center of Chiang Mai. And, very, that drive kind of sets the tone for the day, winding through roads that take you further and further into a seriously lush landscape. We ended up going in the morning, that too means that we bypassed most of the tourist traffic going the other way. Once we arrived, the farm was there in front of us, an inviting area with a nice set of people. What was amazing too is that the weather was not sweltering hot, that to the hill’s breeze makes the temp just right. A nice welcome relief form Thailand’s tropical environment. As far as places go, it looked cared for and was really appealing.

The Organic Farm Tour: What to anticipate

Ban Chik Farm Tour

Right, the tour itself is where you basically get to see Ban Chik’s practices, and, anyway, how they grow all their stuff. Our guide, so too, clearly loved the place and all of the ins and outs that went with the daily challenges. They walk you, almost, around the grounds, explain their organic growing strategies and their principles. They use absolutely zero unnatural chemical processes in their method. So, really, expect to learn stuff about soil preparation and all kinds of cool stuff about how they get some crazy nutritious veggies. They’re super happy to answer any of your questions, no matter, like, how small. I was asking questions all tour long, which they all dealt with without any frustration. You, too, should wear appropriate shoes, the area is not flat and you are likely walking. It wasn’t tough but a good pair of runners should do you well. Now too for the tour time, expect to be there for over an hour on this part.

Tasting the Goodness: Sampling Fresh Produce

Oh man, this part of the trip was definitely a total highlight. After wandering, you know, around the farm, we got to chill out and taste some stuff from the area, things that are grown and produced on the farm, very naturally. Everything we tried was very fresh, which added a totally cool layer. Things we did try, for example, was the fresh-picked greens to some fruits that are grown only during Thailand’s tropical wet season. Now, so too, the other item we tasted was all of the different items from their shop that have herbs in them from their farm. One in particular was a green herbal tea and balm for your temples that was quite enjoyable.

Ban Chik’s commitment to sustainability and the neighborhood

So, one of the things that struck me the most about Ban Chik, actually, was just how real they were about operating a business, very locally. It’s obvious they’re thinking long-term about their influence on the environment and helping others do this in the region. They, seemingly, aren’t only concerned with sales but care for Thailand’s organic practices overall. Now too for employment, the bulk of their work-base live close by and that helps them put money into the location which they have set roots.
