Arequipa Colca Canyon 2-Day Trek: A Real Traveler’s Review

Colca Canyon! This spot is deep. We are talking one of the deepest canyons on this earth. So, yeah, it makes for quite a spot to stretch your legs. Nestled fairly close to Arequipa, in southern Peru, it presents, like your opportunity to soak up views, step up your hiking game, and maybe even see a condor cruising through the air, you know? I had to write up this review after taking a two-day trek. I’m sharing all of it – views, bits that maybe could have gone better, and whether it’s seriously something I’d tell my buddies to go do. If getting really real views into Peru’s back country is something you’re after, come along; maybe this trek just may be your thing.

Booking and Getting Ready for the Colca Canyon Trip

Arequipa Main Square

Arranging this whole trek thing? Usually? So, it begins in Arequipa, right? A bunch of outfits give it a go there. You might check out places online, ask at your spot, or see kiosks hanging about the Plaza de Armas. Honestly, pricing and, like, what’s included? That can shift all over. I ended up opting for one that had solid chatter online, and I chatted them up ahead to clear away every worry I had. Anyway, get real with these bits before you lock it in:

  • What’s Included: Look hard, do they bundle eats? Ride fares? Park tickets even? Find out what’s on you, before you jump.
  • How many peeps?: Smatter groups, that could make for, you know, something that actually feels personal. That being mentioned? Often? More could mean cheaper fares, yet, more crowding? That kind of deal.
  • The Guide Situation: A guide fluent in both, like, English, and Spanish, at the least, can really smooth the way, in some respects. Their thoughts? It can seriously, like, grow that insight, too.

Oh! Before leaving town? Take a glance and grab trekking shoes. You want things, like, durable ones! Pack clothes ready for shifts, since mornings seem crispy, no doubt, yet days maybe bring roasting sunlight! Sun goop and some head covering become must-haves as well. Altitude! People underestimate this, but, gulping tons of liquid may seriously help that head thing when elevation climbs!

Day 1: Soaking in Views and Headed Deep

Cruz del Condor Colca Canyon

The opening? Right so! It’s often, early. Prepare, since pickups frequently launch prior to sunlight creeping up, designed that we snag ‘Cruz del Condor’, where, so to speak, you maybe will watch condors twirling! Arriving on scene? Seriously just wow! Seeing this great feathered giant surf above canyon gorges makes a thing happen inside. Honestly? Tourists can thicken here at moments; I believe staying sharp about slot and squeezing yourself to watch gives some really cool images, you know? In any event? The Canyon feels deep.

From such lofty places, expect windings towards canyon bases, to the bottom basically, but that descent proves tough. Understand, this might work knees very firmly, that your rod gets handy, truly? Even some peeps like these! Just a little heads-up, trails morph, so, at times? Rocky under soles!

Bottom struck? No doubt you get greeted warmly at those towns inside. I halted in San Juan de Chucco, a place tiny yet full of heart. This spot gifts, no doubt, eats at lunchtime with area staples. So simple! Yeah? So yummy! Fuel becomes handy given ascents just near. We hit up, really? Cosñirhua from the afternoon? You watch? Spot pre-Inca tombs. That tour helps paint just how age-old that zone truly is, so!

I settled into that village in the evening, typically to a fairly homey lodging spot! Seriously basic! But still? Clean and nice. The missing bits in a resort thing is balanced with Peru feelings! No matter! With folks sharing food? Hearing tales from fellow wanderers made me realize those bonds, that one truly enjoys as part of travel experiences, right? I slept amazingly despite that long haul that afternoon! Canyon fresh breeze definitely worked, I can assure you!

Day 2: Climbing back and Looking Back

Oasis Sangalle Colca Canyon

Listen to me, the second day feels like work. Climbing away from Colca needs grit, really! It really gets underway just before sun peeks above! Grabbing ahead on degrees while warmth still feels okay seems kind of critical, honestly. Paths stretch upward in that winding zigzag state. That part can crush those who maybe don’t train as much, you see.

Yet, don’t go light! Sunscapes prove worthwhile! Once high spots are hit? That view just reaches every place. Take breaths, pause! Give those moments time for digesting. I used my energy to gain top spot. Then that breeze touching upon sweating faces? You realize worth inside.

Most itineraries will drive you towards Cabanaconde, that town is that. Typically, that point is that spot? Where tourists consume final meals. Plenty, of course, want trying ‘alpaca steaks’ (that kind of beefy stuff! Yes?). From there, we twisted behind to Arequipa by highway; in between? We glanced, actually, on more spots along those roads; yet, truly by that part, mostly? Peeps generally nap.

Pluses and Maybe Bits of a Challenge

This adventure is just full of moments; naturally? There are, too, bits I adored and maybe also things folks should watch.

  • Real Viewing Times: Really, you grab vistas from every possible thing, to some degree, condor spottings as well? It simply seems worthy.
  • A peek to that Zone’s Culture: Residing amidst smaller towns and talking up Peruvians grants a different dimension against staying within common travel hot-spots.
  • Health Kick: Physically wise? Very. Still, that activity gives those muscles something, in the manner one enjoys right afterwards!

Yet…

  • Really Rough Hikes: Those low fitness rates should probably not dive onto stuff spontaneously! I strongly feel that even average peeps need planning a few before coming.
  • Basic State: Keep expectations under wraps considering lodgings? Food selections also? Just somewhat under. They give Peru’s slice, alright? Nothing glitzy around there.
  • Altitude: Just! Understand? This might bother! That awareness and responding as the body expresses can prevent hassles, honestly.

Is that Trek to Colca right for you?

I’m writing this review just really quick, so, should it be one folks explore personally? So!

Someone enjoying adventure! Seriously deep into land looks cool! This trek really hits that mood well, mostly! But still? Take one who actually expects something really comfy and five stars plus stuff? Really maybe skip such, so.

Fitness counts! I would assume people do some walking and running. A trek down and up a canyon simply can smash one! But I can assume most folks would find it great anyway.

Value. When cash turns important, that trek scores gold truly. But doing the two days makes viewing a location far cheaper when versus swankier gigs available round this zone generally.

Tips and Good Things to Remember About Trekking Colca

  • Packing Stuff Lightly: I see wanderers lugging around backpacks bigger when hiking stuff. You would want simply must haves as to not be a pain, of course.
  • Sunscreen, Definitely: Just so harsh, you truly will want, as your hide maybe thanks! Bring loads! Always use it!
  • Speak that local dialect!: Practice several terms; folks greatly value folks working hard on communication to people, no doubt.
  • Stay soothed: Hiking Colca, right; you simply have chances for pushing far; give things rest pauses or breathe points! Then all runs quite brilliantly mostly!

Details

  • Spots! Colca sits nearby Arequipa; many outfits sell rounds leaving, so.
  • Best timings!: May til September grants climates drier that usually has sight possibilities very optimal indeed!
  • Prices?: Dependant that thing being involved (lodgings truly?) costs shift roughly 150 – 300 American possibly!

I’ve had that adventure during those travels a fair bit now honestly, doing trips such just maybe remains standout a bit truly; with things to those canyons to really that heart inside that Peruvian land generally.

I hope what folks understand and benefit, or even go and like just be changed for all!

Keep those plans smart truly! Safe climbs also friends! So, yes go around folks enjoy those scenes.
