Anuradhapura, Sigiriya & Habarana Tour: A Sri Lanka Review

Anuradhapura Sigiriya Habarana

So, if you’re thinking of visiting Sri Lanka and soaking up some culture and history while maybe squeezing in a thrilling wildlife adventure, the Anuradhapura, Sigiriya, and Habarana tour is almost certainly something you should check out. That is, it packs a punch by mixing ancient cities with impressive fortresses and, too it’s almost unbelievable, the raw beauty of the Sri Lankan wilderness.

Delving into Anuradhapura’s Ancient Splendors

Anuradhapura Ancient City

Okay, Anuradhapura is really the starting point, right, that showcases Sri Lanka’s past. We’re talking, you know, that ancient capital, basically dating back to the 4th century BC, which means, in some respects, you’re really stepping back in time. As I was saying, that place is like an open-air museum.

Arguably, that most notable spot that you should see is Ruwanwelisaya, often called the Great Stupa, with its shining white dome reaching for the sky, arguably demonstrating just a bit about how skillful the ancient builders were. Anuradhapura’s Sacred City is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, as a matter of fact, and you see why the second you step into that old place; Anuradhapura presents old monasteries and great reservoirs, all linked by a well working old civilization, apparently all waiting to be explored, it tends to be.

Conquering Sigiriya: The Lion Rock

Sigiriya Lion Rock

Next up is Sigiriya, and oh boy, Sigiriya! Just a little something; This gigantic rock fortress that juts right out of the earth is something else. Picture that 660-foot rock, that is to say, seemingly a natural skyscraper. On top, you find old ruins of a castle, gardens and pools that show how fancy life was back in the day. What may sound surprising is that it all started in the 5th century AD by King Kasyapa.

The hike up is certainly something, by the way. Passing these ancient frescoes of celestial maidens, almost seemingly glowing on the rock face, is just impressive. The Mirror Wall, that shines smooth surface once reflecting everyone walking by, leading up to the Lion Gate will arguably steal all of your attention. You have that Lion staircase looking just incredible leading to the top. But hold on, those views up there are worth every step.

Habarana Safari: An Encounter with Wildlife

Habarana Elephant Safari

After that bit of culture and history, that next thing on the list, Habarana, shifts us to something more untamed; a visit here basically revolves around wildlife. That village makes the door to tons of national parks, with so many elephants in one place, especially at Minneriya and Kaudulla. What might shock you is how many jumbos are around.

Okay, imagine this; is that open jeep, so you bump along dirt paths and there are, like, huge groups of elephants feeding near water tanks, and they do other things that will interest you too. That’s a memory you won’t soon lose, definitely! Of course, keep watch and see so many cool birds, and who knows, possibly even see that hidden leopard; there’s an untamed adventure waiting, actually, in so many ways.

Accommodation and Cuisine

Sri Lankan Food

If you get hungry during all of this touring around, Sri Lanka gives a pretty yummy mix of choices. A bit, Sri Lankan cooking mixes spices and flavors together. Of course, don’t even think about skipping out on trying some kottu roti (is that stir-fried flatbread) or maybe some curry, for instance. If you would like an example of where to lay your head, here you go: Anuradhapura offers different places, from cozy lodges to fancy hotels. Likewise, in Habarana, there are lots of eco-lodges so, too it’s almost easy to get very close to the jungles without missing ease.
