Antalya Old City Tour Review: Kaleici & Waterfalls Boat Trip
Antalya, with its beautiful coast and loads of history, seems a perfect spot for a vacation, right? And of course, there are ways to explore its old city charm. Now, I want to share my experience with a ‘Full Day Antalya Old City Tour,’ which promised to show me Kaleici, plus some cool waterfalls, ending with a fun boat. So, come find out if the tour really gave me the experience I was hoping.
Discovering Kaleici: The Heart of Antalya
Kaleici, is that really Antalya’s old town?, with its streets and old houses, sure feels like stepping back. First thing, wandering those winding paths, it’s almost like going into a different time. That stone pavement, with aged structures on either side, tells an ancient story. Basically, every corner seems to hold a piece of Antalya’s rich history. It is filled with remnants of Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman rule, so in a way, you can almost feel their presence around.
There are loads of things that hold interest like your camera here. The Hadrian’s Gate, very tall and strong, is that like an actual window into the Roman past. Those old Ottoman houses, so they are usually restored, show pretty good examples of traditional Turkish design. Actually, I found that looking at the details, the wood carvings and such, gave me real insight into the city’s soul.
Now, it got crowded there during midday, as you might guess, so the peaceful vibe that I sensed there slowly disappeared. The shops had their little trinkets, just things like spices, jewelry, and so on, so it made it very easy to just get lost, though, in the commercial part of the experience, right?
What made Kaleici special for me? It was more or less in the overall atmosphere, really. Sitting in a cafe, sipping Turkish coffee, I usually tried to watch the activity and you see so many stories taking place around you. Kaleici isn’t just some stop for tourists. Rather, it feels like the place where history lives.
The Splendor of Antalya’s Waterfalls
Well, Antalya has a good bunch of waterfalls around it, you know. As I said, our tour took us to see two of these natural wonders. It also turned out, it offered a refreshing change of scenery, you know, coming from the urban atmosphere.
First, there were the Lower Duden Waterfalls. Now, the tour description said that they dramatically cascade over rocks and clip right into the sea. So, it turned out watching that rush of water fall into the ocean felt impressive and rather invigorating.
Afterward, the Upper Duden Waterfalls felt like an outdoor space hidden very well. You’ve got the water plunging through a rocky cliff and into a pond down there, I think. So, what this created was like a collection of small pools and mini-caves that you could potentially explore. In that way, the sound of the cascading water gave it kind of a peaceful feeling, just very disconnected.
Actually, you can visit behind the waterfall! You know that can add a dash of adventure. You do get a wet doing so. What I feel could be better would almost definitely be more time at both spots to fully explore. It might have felt rather rushed, because you want a certain measure of being close to a raw force from way up close!
Sailing the Coast: The Boat Experience
Next up was the boat tour. Actually, this leg was something that I was definitely expecting. As a matter of fact, the tour said that this would go along the Antalya coastline to places like bays and beaches.
The boat gave some views. As you are moving across, Antalya’s shores do look, just, wow! Looking back at the city getting smaller in the view was fascinating. Plus, you get to just chill, you know, feel the sun. Basically, it turns out a person has loads of chances just for nice pics for people back home.
Still, now, I have to say. Things got quite loud as there was also some music involved. It could be that those seeking a restful cruise should keep it at the back of their heads. Now, the boat got a little crowded, and some people felt that way too. You know, that made moving difficult to take the shots. To me, that was sad since some space would be more than welcome.
That bit of the experience was nice. Basically, cruising on that Mediterranean sea added an alternate view of Antalya. But still, I kinda think it could’ve done even better with less noise and even space for everyone. Then that part will stand out even more.
What to Eat and Drink
Food will matter. You are in Antalya, right? So naturally there are local flavors all over.
In Kaleici you find spots selling the regular street foods. As I have seen, there were those stalls having gozleme which are some savory flatbreads stuffed with many things. And of course, there is the Dondurma or the Turkish ice cream, very stretchy and with a taste you can not just shrug off.
If you prefer, there exist so many restaurants offering whole feasts. In that mix you have the kebabs as you guess, those are the thing. In fact, try their fresh seafood; very nice. Local food beats whatever hotel you use. Well, that’s the way I think about it.
Drinks-wise, Turkish coffee needs your respect, right? That is potent and pretty strong. And it seems like the local teas will refresh you after roaming a bit. See, food really builds a bridge right in with Turkish culture and lets people get real close in their way.
