First Stop: Mount Nebo’s Breathtaking Views

Mount Nebo just might have been the opening act, and wow, what an opener. Remember Moses? You know, from the Bible? Word is, that this is where he saw the Promised Land, and, well, you can too! So, the view really is something. On a bright day, apparently you can even spot Israel. Even without that view, though, you get such a sense of history just standing there. The mosaics inside the church, really quite lovely! That they’ve lasted so long is incredible.

What I appreciated about this first stop, it had a great balance. You get a little history, great scenery, and you can actually appreciate a quiet moment, too it’s almost meditative. It felt like a good way to start a pretty packed day.

The Baptism Site: Touching History

Okay, so after Nebo, we went on to the Baptism Site, also known as Bethany Beyond the Jordan. This is where, you know, John the Baptist is thought to have baptized Jesus. Whether you’re really religious or not, there’s a palpable feeling about the place. It feels significant, very historic.

Now, is that worth it? Here is the thing: It depends. If you’re really interested in religious history, specifically Christian history, then, it’s kind of unmissable. The guides there, rather informative. I mean, there is that feeling of walking on hallowed ground. Though I found it moving, my partner just saw it as “another historical site,” you know? It just really depends on your own take, I suppose.

Floating in the Dead Sea: A Buoyant Experience

The Dead Sea, of course! How could you pass up the opportunity? This was the final stop on our tour, that real chance to just relax, that is, after all the history and the sightseeing. Let me just say, floating is the strangest sensation. You quite literally cannot sink. Cover yourself in the mud, which apparently is quite good for your skin and get some funny pictures.

So, is floating in the Dead Sea as awesome as everyone says? Yeah, it really is. Just a word of warning, do not get the water in your eyes! It stings like crazy! Honestly, you might want to buy water shoes, too it’s almost because the salt crystals on the bottom are, you know, a bit rough. However, overall, an unforgettable experience. And after a day of touring, incredibly relaxing!

What to Expect on the Tour

Expect a full day. No, seriously, this is a long one. Get prepared for an early start, because the sites are some way from Amman, basically. Our group was quite small, about ten people. That made it convenient, and so it was easy to hear the guide and ask questions. Transport was with a modern, air-conditioned bus, very important in the Jordanian heat. The guide was really helpful, telling us the main information at each site, but also allowing you a little freedom to go wander alone too. Lunch was part of the package, really a pretty decent buffet.

Things I think that could be better? It was quite rushed, you know? Packing three major attractions into one day means that you’re not going to spend long at any one place. If you like to linger, this isn’t the tour for you. I, too, found the constant sales pitches a little annoying, that is from the Baptism Site staff for souvenirs. The Dead Sea resort, well, not the most luxurious. It might be more for function over style, that is to say it allowed me to change and shower. Do bring your own towel, though.

Is the Ammandead Sea Baptism Site Mount Nebo Day Tour Worth It?

At the end of the day, would I advise this tour? Well, here’s the thing: If you are seriously pressed for time and really would like to see these main spots, then yes, I think so. The tour, really well-organized, it gets you to three impressive places without all the bother of doing it yourself. If you choose to explore these destinations in more depth, give yourself more time. You’ll just need more than one day.
