Adelaide Hills Tour: River Murray Lunch Cruise Review

Thinking about seeing the Adelaide Hills and also going on that River Murray lunch cruise? That seems like something quite fun, yet before you do, maybe it’s almost worth getting filled in. You see, I took the tour not too long ago, and like your average vacationer, I came away with experiences I had to share. Was it everything I had dreamed? Possibly, but it’s also maybe wise to walk into the tour well equipped with the facts. I hope this detailed look assists.

Getting to the Adelaide Hills: First Impressions

Road to Adelaide Hills

So, the drive up into the Adelaide Hills – it’s definitely gorgeous. Leaving the city is super fast and soon enough you begin going uphill, passing areas where the trees are definitely denser. The air suddenly gets noticeably crisper and that’s very pleasant. On this trip, it’s arguably worth actually just drinking in the views. Curvy roads go past vineyards, orchards, and little towns that, in some respects, seemed very cozy.

The tour bus, at any rate, seemed fine. Maybe not that brand spanking new but honestly still fairly cozy. The person giving the tour actually seemed very knowledgeable, which just, like, made it very exciting from the start. They talked a bit about the early settlers and the indigenous history of the area. As a matter of fact, hearing that info definitely gave that whole place even more personality, right?

Exploring the Charming Towns

Hahndorf South Australia

Okay, Hahndorf! You might know of it because of its sort of old German vibes and is it just me or do a ton of people seem to love that? I got the impression it was definitely something. In a way it could be quite touristy, yet still somewhat charming, to be honest. The main street happens to be lined with shops selling all things cuckoo clocks and traditional German sweets. We stopped for nearly an hour, which for me was just maybe enough time to get a snack (a yummy pretzel!) and check a few stores, so too it’s almost enough. Just walking along looking at the architecture was quite a relaxing change.

We, in addition, visited a few of the quieter smaller towns, so too it’s almost a good way to get away from some of the bigger crowds and truly see some little gems. Those locations felt a bit more genuine in some respects. I bought honey from a little local store and still kinda wish I’d bought more, because who knows if ill come again.

The River Murray Lunch Cruise: A Highlight?

River Murray Lunch Cruise

So, the River Murray cruise, a bit, arguably was that main attraction. That’s very reasonable too. We drove from the Hills down to the river area where the boat, which seems lovely at first glance, just sat waiting. Stepping aboard seemed really nice. It wasn’t super luxurious, right, yet plenty comfy for a midday relaxing and eating.

The food actually seems solid. Maybe not 5 star, at any rate, but that kind of buffet has enough different items to, in that case, happily fill you up, and in some respects everyone found something they enjoyed. That seems nice. There has been roast meat, salad, and a small range of, like, desserts too. Drinks often seem purchased separately, so it seems, and honestly those aren’t that cheap, FYI.

As I was saying, scenery! Being on the Murray gave a peaceful sensation. Trees go past at a chill rate, the sunlight kinda glittered on the water, and honestly there seemed to be heaps of birds gliding. You know? The boat had seating both outdoors and indoors, and a lot of us preferred staying up on top for that view, so that feels natural, right? The cruise goes for maybe three hours, which could be, like, perfect to just chill out after you’ve been driving, so you could do that.

Potential Drawbacks

Crowded tourist area

The issue of the day-tripping industry: in a way, that might not vibe with folks. I was talking with my seat partner, and the crush of people made her, in fact, a bit frazzled at Hahndorf. Honestly, it definitely might be quieter in the off months.

If you want super duper authentic experiences all of the time, so, too it’s almost something to bear in mind, that you are, in some respects, still taking that tour. So many visitors might go to spots primarily geared to vacationers. I love off-the-beaten path things so sometimes i’d arguably like finding hidden gems instead.

Value for Money

Saving money vacation

So, when I consider whether that price makes sense, I look at a bunch of, you know, little things. With that guided driving you won’t have to handle navigating or planning out every location, so, too it’s almost like that is really sweet. Lunch tends to be included, too it’s almost one less factor, right? Nevertheless, weigh whether you want to travel alone in that driving that way, because, obviously, it’s not free. Basically it relies, arguably, on what’s perfect for your finances and the type of comfort that interests your style of vacations.
