Stonehenge, Windsor, Bath & Lacock: An Expert Tour Review
So, you’re thinking about maybe seeing Stonehenge, Windsor Castle, Bath, plus Lacock, are you? That’s a pretty classic combination for a day trip from London. Is it a little rushed? Arguably, maybe, very, very slightly. Is it worth it? I suppose that kinda depends what you’re looking for, doesn’t it? I figured I’d share some thoughts on just how it all shakes out.
First Stop: Mighty Windsor Castle
Well, that is if it’s open, obviously! If there’s one spot to arrive early at on the tour, it could very well be Windsor Castle. As a working castle, the place has been home to British monarchs, very, very nearly a thousand years or so, it means that parts of it close pretty often for state events and all that. Check before you go, because you’d probably be rather disappointed, I think, turning up and, like, half the place is off limits. What is there to see? Just tons. The State Apartments, so that’s where the fancy artwork, right, is, along with Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House. Honestly, even if dolls aren’t your thing, seeing something that’s extremely, utterly detailed is kinda incredible, really. St George’s Chapel could very well be, you know, one of the most beautiful examples, maybe, probably, very likely of gothic church construction in the UK and the spot, just like, tons of royals are actually buried there.
Then There’s those Standing Stones: Stonehenge
Alright, moving on, so it’s off to Stonehenge. Now, opinions on Stonehenge kinda seem a bit split, almost like you either are just completely fascinated or somewhat, you know, underwhelmed, don’t you think? No matter how you actually feel about the stones themselves, there isn’t any kind of denying just how important the spot once was. Try to, like, give your brain a break when thinking of it, could be? You are looking at something, really, where people did things we have no way of fully knowing about from way back, maybe five thousand years ago. So that’s very much something, basically, right? What should you do? Take your time looking at it and walking around a bit. Do you feel anything looking at it? Whatever that could actually be, just embrace it. The visitor center seems, too, it’s pretty informative and has things that bring context to all those stones standing upright in a field, maybe giving us information about the people who originally built it, could be.
Take a Dip in History at Bath
Now, Bath really brings a change of pace, really, when compared to Windsor, too it’s almost or even Stonehenge. Bath is just such a pretty city, alright? It has those really stunning Georgian buildings, right? So, what to do? Well, of course, seeing the Roman Baths could actually be a must. That location really gives you such a look into just how the Romans enjoyed to unwind, and there could very well be some, so, so great history just actually built into those stones and into that ground! So then, walk around a little, will you? Very. It can, honestly, be just so enjoyable. So then maybe see Pulteney Bridge? A little similar to the Ponte Vecchio that’s located in Florence in Italy? If shopping could actually be what you want, or a tea shop visit might be cool for you too. Then just chill somewhere and take in all those fancy stone buildings surrounding you. Bath kind of has this, so, special vibe to it that very many cities just don’t give off as much. Is that strange? It really kind of doesn’t make much sense, but you’ll possibly catch the vibe very, very nearly the minute you come into the area, really.
Last, but not least, see pretty Lacock
When it’s, too it’s almost time for your tour to finally wind down, then that brings you over to a small town with the somewhat different name of Lacock. This entire spot almost kind of just gives off these somewhat unreal vibes with how incredibly utterly nicely preserved the whole town just seems. If you love film and TV shows, that just could very well be the place for you! Lacock honestly gets frequently, right, just gets picked to get used as the spot for all these period movies, I suppose. If you just wander around there, is that what you did, too? Take some pictures and all. Plus Lacock Abbey might actually also be somewhat of an absolute must see as well. That has this quite special history too since, you know, very, very long ago they were actually taking photographic pictures right inside. Kinda special.
A final point, let’s chat about some time considerations.
A few points here to consider before booking up! Look, squeezing those kinds of location destinations all, too it’s almost just into a single day just makes for a pretty quick adventure and kind of fast times right? Does spending, well, you might very well be closer to two or, probably more like three hours sitting down while traveling kind of stink. If so, possibly, just possibly pick only spots, or less spots and only ones near, could be the idea. However if seeing each spot might actually be better then possibly pick something you’ll, too it’s almost literally just like to just go see them. So many tours might only provide a handful of hours max at many or a few, a smaller number of our destinations. I should just remind any visitor looking at the destination and how often some locations aren’t accessible. Is traveling when half the Windsor’s spots end up temporarily locked off while it’s ready for guests so it kind of will seem disappointing. Try finding somewhere when more things look ready, basically, too.
