All my questions actually got proper answers, and, like, your booking confirmation arrived quickly, too it’s almost, which really did reassure me that they weren’t just going to steal my money and not pick me up. The ride to My Son takes about an hour or so, I suppose, and as we drove, that the sky slowly began, actually very dramatically, lightening.
Arriving at My Son before pretty much anyone else felt seriously special, though! You know, it’s such a remarkable difference when you actually get to stroll around such an historical place without feeling pushed around by others. And watching the sun come up over those ancient brick temples, like that was just unforgettable! The light as it struck was really special; those orange and red colors looked incredible. Photographs never capture things like that accurately enough, do they? Very amazing. I highly, really suggest the early start is totally justified, just for that, honestly.

A great guide is definitely what can seriously make or break a tour, right? I found ours was outstanding! Her name was Lien. She had a good level of English. More importantly, that, you see, she clearly had real passion when speaking about the history and importance of My Son. It just oozed from her! Her knowledge of the Cham civilization was really broad, and she told the information and some lovely little stories which totally brought the place to life, to me, anyway. She knew I wanted the personal feel. Lien really listened to all my questions. She adjusted what she was saying to my specific needs, instead of just giving some robotic script which she uses a million times a year!
Her insight really was super beneficial, and I actually appreciated how she pointed out all these finer details that you would miss if you simply wondered about alone. It just goes to show! Plus, she actually seemed very enthusiastic when answering all my random questions about Vietnamese culture and daily life. What a nice woman!
Exploring My Son: What You’ll See
My Son is, that, like kind of a bunch of impressive temple ruins, so that the place used to be this really significant religious and political hub for the Cham civilization all those years ago, from around the 4th to the 13th centuries, apparently. It’s crazy thinking about it really; some ruins you see, it feels like only fifty years ago. These are much, much older! Lien guided me carefully though, telling all that fascinating stuff.
She described all these several groups of temples, actually explaining what makes each one distinct. The architecture really showed all this real Indian influence, that I noticed as you get deeper, especially the carvings of gods and mythical creatures! But it’s really sad actually how parts of it were heavily damaged during the Vietnam War. Conservation work does go on and the efforts do help quite a bit though! You can, really get a real sense of the magnitude and beauty of the area from a little bit, and imagine the culture back then! Is that, like your imagining it, too?
Photography Opportunities: Sunrise and Beyond
For those keen photographers, My Son, seriously, offers something rather awesome! Clearly, the sunrise shoots can produce some incredible images. Believe me, if you want some pictures to stick straight on your Insta feed! After that light improves so much during the early morning, allowing you to get very good, very detailed pictures. You can, anyway, find that the light can get a bit harsh as that sun gets up high so, therefore, you need to use a slightly slower speed on your camera, obviously! Anyway, Lien had so many great ideas. She knows where all those great angles exist! I appreciated how she gave me plenty of time to set up and get the pictures I wanted without ever rushing me on.
What’s Included and What to Expect
My tour package was a proper, complete one, with pickup and drop-off right from my hotel, all those entrance fees were included too, and the services of my superb guide. So helpful! Oh, they even gave us cold water bottles to carry around, really kind when that climate gets a tad too hot, you see.
They then offered us a regular Vietnamese breakfast in a little cafe near to My Son on the way back, too it’s almost. That was tasty. Something small, not one of those massive, greasy meals you sometimes get served abroad. All very tasty and all that you require to make that journey easier. A decent experience, so it was.
Potential Downsides
Is that fair if I also describe a couple potential negatives? Honestly, this tour was fabulous! I had a brilliant time. Just maybe consider one or two elements prior to booking so it can assist you to have realistic anticipation!
Starting so very early just will not be to all people’s taste, definitely. It needs you to get yourself moving pretty quickly, especially if you have to get dressed at a similar time, though the sunrise bit, that I keep talking about, really makes it all super worthwhile! My Son does get hot quite quickly as the sun rises, anyway, but that cannot be helped. Bring all that lotion and wear all your protective wear so you can minimise how you react. I did see people turn quite red! Bring water anyway. They give you some but be prepared anyway.
Ultimately, this tour could potentially get more costly than booking, you know, one of your regular group tours, you find. Still, if you truly fancy a memorable experience in My Son, then paying a little bit, you discover, really justifies the more personalized guidance you receive. Especially that calm atmosphere. Did wonders for me, it did.
Final Thoughts
I have to say; my experience during that My Son Sunrise Private Tour definitely went above what I had hoped for. I did have an extraordinary time. The early start does allow you to experience My Son in its purest kind of way. Avoiding, mostly, those busy crowds really enhances it. You then obtain all this extra expertise and knowledge which Lien was throwing out left, right and centre. Definitely, this can easily enhance the exploration. Are you someone who dislikes all that noise? If that applies, you see, this must be, anyway, absolutely a fabulous choice!
If you truly want the kind of in-depth, personalized trip, this may be worth the expense! Consider if you want your privacy and personal insights as opposed to squeezing and getting pushed round. As that lady who went prior told me, it all gets very worth it for an experience like that! Seriously.
