Campanopolis Tour Review: Is This Medieval Theme Park Worth it?
So, planning a trip near Buenos Aires and heard whispers about this super strange place called Campanopolis? Maybe you, too, are looking for something totally out of the ordinary. Well, I went, I saw, and now, basically, I’m ready to tell you if this medieval-ish theme park and the whole guided tour experience are actually something you’d like or if it’s better to just, sort of, spend your day someplace else. Here’s the story.
What in the world is Campanopolis Anyway?
First, as a matter of fact, what exactly *is* Campanopolis? So, imagine this: someone had this absolutely wild dream of creating a medieval village, almost, like, right outside Buenos Aires. And, I mean, they went for it! Antonio Campana was the person who actually visualized this and, as a matter of fact, started building it. It began back in the 1970s on, like, land that wasn’t exactly, well, pretty. Actually, apparently, it was a dumping ground. But Antonio saw potential where pretty much no one else did. It features stone buildings that were designed in medieval times in old Europe and, too it’s almost like, a maze of passages, bridges, and little plazas.
The whole thing is definitely odd. It’s, maybe, charming but, arguably, a bit ramshackle. Many structures were put together from recycled materials which, basically, gives it this, you know, quirky vibe. Very fairy tale but also, like, built on a budget. You might be interested, actually, in learning more. I will continue below!
Booking a Guided Tour, you know?
Okay, as a matter of fact, here’s something you’ll, kind of, need to get this straight. So, Campanopolis isn’t something where you can, I mean, really just wander in any time you feel like it. Actually, basically, you’ve got to book a guided tour. Lots of local tour companies in Buenos Aires actually run tours, which include transportation. It’s arguably the easiest way to visit because it’s kind of a distance from the city center. Some, too, offer add-ons, that feature lunch or other excursions in the area. I booked, basically, through a well-known tour operator in Buenos Aires, and the whole thing was pretty straightforward.
In advance of that, basically, I checked the times. Most tours, so, run on weekends, and that’s it. You want to book, maybe, well ahead of time. Basically, spots can fill up, especially during tourist season. I also looked into what the tour actually includes. The tour itself usually runs, like, two to three hours. Usually that’s plenty of time to, well, get the highlights and take tons of pics. Very important.
The Transfer and What to anticipate
First off, on tour day, the bus showed up basically right on schedule at my hotel. Very convenient. It’s always a relief when transportation logistics actually work out, right? The drive is a bit long. Maybe like an hour or more, I suppose, depending on traffic. That is, very Buenos Aires traffic. So I do think I got to actually see a little more of the countryside as we drove further from the city.
Very much when we arrived at Campanopolis, I thought, “Okay, this is different.” From there you walk down a small lane to the stone structures. When people say medieval theme park, well, don’t go expecting a super polished Disney-type park. It’s, actually, much more funky and quirky, kind of. It definitely looks its age in some spots, but that really almost just adds to its unusual feel. As a matter of fact, my tour group was a pretty good size which actually made the experience a little more fun. So, basically, the more the merrier, arguably, when you’re visiting such a unique place.
A Walk Through another world
I felt the guide took us pretty much through a planned path through the village, and telling us the story of Antonio Campana and, like, his vision, and pretty much explaining some features. Many structures have this distinctive European architectural influence. Though, to be honest, some are definitely closer to historical than others.
Now you go down through, almost like, cobbled paths and you get the opportunity, basically, to enter certain of the buildings. The inside shows quirky decor. It’s a place, so, that invites lots of photos. And the surrounding landscape really completes it, almost like it’s something straight out of a storybook. By the way, I loved seeing other visitors actually seemed really into the photo ops, very getting the best shots of every tower. The trip provides sufficient time, almost, to soak it all up while getting the main highlights.
Is the Tour, well, Really Worth it?
Okay, let’s get into this real thing: Is that tour and the trip really worth the expense and time, kind of? So, basically, here are some reflections based on the real experience.
Why Go:
- If you have interest for weird, rare stuff. It definitely delivers in that sense. It is unlike anywhere you may ever have been!
- Are you looking to escape Buenos Aires a little bit and view, you know, the Argentina area without the city. The countryside scenery has great value, kind of.
- Very Instagram-worthy place to take a visit. You definitely get amazing shots!
Things To Think About:
- Keep your expectations in check, like. This is quirky! The structures actually show some wear, okay. Do not come here expecting like new constructions because it is pretty rustic and raw.
- The value for the trip is dependent on interest, very. People searching a typical and mainstream tourist attractions, this would definitely be a shock.
- Know how the time investment compares for the length of a ride of nearly two hours with two-three time on that actual trip location. Is that for you.
For myself, well I liked something distinctive, unique, which, Campanopolis more or less brings that up. Yes, so, if those are your needs in terms of interests, for you this can be a highlight during your Buenos Aires experience.
One important aspect that makes it unique is the architectural influences, you know? All the buildings look like in times of Europe of medieval periods. This park brings unique buildings and structures that come out of a fairytale which is something cool to enjoy!
