Your tuk tuk driver will more than likely pick you up from your hotel. It’s off into the darkness, heading towards Angkor Wat. It is really an incredible sight seeing the temple silhouettes against the early morning sky, apparently. Just know that you will not be the only one there! Then, more than likely, after sunrise and a wander around Angkor Wat, you will head to Angkor Thom. Bayon, with all those faces, is quite the thing. You might spend a while there taking photos. You should also visit the Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of the Leaning King. Later in the day, that you would probably swing by Ta Prohm, where nature has really taken over, more or less, with trees growing right out of the temple stones. Your driver should then know where the good spots are for lunch. Remember, they are local, after all! It may be that they will take you back to your hotel after the sunset view, too.

My Own Experience: A Bit Dusty, Very Awesome

So, I took a similar tour myself a few months back. To be honest, the early start was a bit rough. It’s almost tough getting out of bed when it’s still dark. So just factor that in if you don’t love humidity! The dust was there. I wasn’t lying about that! Basically, bring wipes and maybe a scarf. In the end, though, all those things are minor considering how amazing the day was.

What I Liked (and Didn’t Like)

Being in the open air made the experience so much more involving. It is a fantastic option that allowed us to experience the sounds and atmosphere much better. Also, our driver was amazing. He had so much knowledge. He was also happy to chat and give us local tips. The downsides: The dust! Yes, I know I keep mentioning it. It’s pretty persistent, very! The comfort level isn’t amazing either. So do bear that in mind. It might get a bit wearing by the end of the day. And one day really isn’t enough to see everything, arguably. I wanted longer, to be perfectly honest. Be aware also, that if it happens to rain, that tuk tuks offer only basic shelter. This might just affect things, somewhat. Consider getting a poncho, maybe!
