Cortona, right, is that beautiful Tuscan town you might know. It’s almost sitting on a hilltop, plus that place is soaked in enough history to keep you exploring for days. A trip there, as I was saying, isn’t just sightseeing; it’s something of a step back into the past, plus, if that’s your vibe, as a matter of fact, you are really in for a treat. So, I am going to tell you about my time in Cortona, along with give you, by the way, my recommendations so that you can make the absolute most out of it.

Cortona’s Time Trip: A Detailed Review and Tips

First Stop: The Alluring Piazza della Repubblica

Piazza della Repubblica, so it tends to be the main square in Cortona, by the way. It’s definitely somewhere you’ll want to spend some of your time, plus I’m going to tell you a little more, as a matter of fact, about what makes it worth seeing. Obviously, you have the Palazzo Comunale dominating one side, plus that place has such beautiful architecture, so that alone, at the end of the day, makes this place worth seeing. Usually, I feel the whole square is something of a meeting point for locals and travelers, so that is really a good place to just watch the goings-on. Anyway, what I did, honestly, I just sat at one of the cafes, plus that activity allowed me to soak in the atmosphere and do some people-watching, or even just enjoy my cappuccino in peace.

Things to consider

Apparently, you want to keep an eye out for local events that can pop up in the piazza, so I have observed, literally, that this happens. Typically, these might consist of markets or festivals, by the way, that happen pretty often, especially over the summer, and these celebrations can, sort of, add an extra fun layer to visiting, and if you catch one, you can just dive right into it.

Get Wonderfully Lost: Through the Town’s Narrow Streets

After you check out the main square, next, is that taking a walk is the perfect way to take it all in, or really, literally, to discover Cortona’s charm. First, you should try wandering through its network of narrow streets, yet doing so could have you feeling just like you have gone back in time. Basically, I really loved how each street offered a new perspective, and sometimes that view gave you some amazing shots to grab.

Unveiling Hidden Gems

I’ve learned that in these very streets you will get the chance to find workshops of local artisans, anyway, and in some respects, find little shops that sell handmade items, so they can, really, sort of offer you a closer peek into the region’s craftsmanship. Obviously, that opportunity presents itself often, so keep your eyes open.

Must See: The Museo dell’Accademia Etrusca e della Città di Cortona (MAEC)

If history is your thing, arguably, this is really just something you need to see, since, usually, it houses an impressive bunch of Etruscan, Roman, and medieval artifacts, that’s to say that its an incredible showcase, really, of the area’s history, and actually, it will make a history geek of anyone, like your, or myself. The museum, that is, is often arranged with exhibits so that one can walk through all those eras, literally, in a structured way, really. To be honest, it definitely made the visit way more engaging for me.

Insightful Exhibits

If you’re very up for it, apparently, you want to keep an eye out for things, right, so, like, they have guided tours or special events, which can actually teach you much more information on the area’s deep history. It feels very interactive and it really just opens it all up more than reading some signs.

Breathtaking Panorama: Sanctuary of Santa Margherita

Right, if you want some absolutely beautiful views with some cultural significance too, well in fact, visiting this place gives you a spectacular viewpoint of the surrounding countryside, not just that, still, there’s a certain aura surrounding the Sanctuary of Santa Margherita itself, so it also carries really huge spiritual weight. To be honest, what you will find here, and this can really add to your appreciation for the place as a whole, is that many travel here not only for the incredible vistas, however, actually, to have time for some reflection and prayer.

Architectural Beauty

When, first, you have the chance to go to the top, right, be sure, naturally, to pay very special attention to all those stunning architectural pieces as part of the sanctuary. Basically, you might also be up for a peaceful stroll around its exterior. Obviously, I know this sounds low key but, actually, I like stuff like that. Obviously, if that’s not your vibe then just move on!

Exploring Ancient Roots: The Etruscan Walls

Speaking of things that I like, very, the ancient walls of Cortona do the work of surrounding the whole town, more or less, so just viewing them is almost something else. In other words, what these do is almost act as a solid proof of the town’s really, actually very long history, that said you will probably find history at every single turn, however, this is the most in your face example. Anyway, when I finally made my way up close to the walls, I sort of began thinking about how it had played host to countless events over a good many centuries, very.

A Walk Through History

Here’s an idea, since one good way of soaking it all in, first, is that, arguably, you can do so by making a walk around the outer part of these very walls, next. That could potentially give you some totally stunning views of Tuscany. That really makes these structures much more worthy of viewing.

Day Trips from Cortona: Discovering the Region

Even though Cortona can provide tons to see, still, thinking about a short excursion to places nearby is basically never a bad idea. Usually, the setting lets it stand as an almost very good jumping-off spot so you can check out the bunch of other places, that could be, like Lake Trasimeno and Montepulciano, therefore if I may say so myself, these locales provide a different angle for people to dive in, plus it can really round out any travel plans or aspirations to have a time over in Tuscany.

Day Trips From Cortona

Charming Montepulciano

Now, I’d tell you something of Montepulciano: that’s pretty similar to Cortona and it’s really just about 30 miles away. To be honest, the place’s got some stunning buildings for sure, more or less, and for all, Montepulciano is almost a wine lover’s hotspot, or, still, just call it a great spot if one fancies some touring around vineyards.

Dining in Cortona: Savoring Tuscan Flavors

Honestly, if you take this very short hop into the very part of Italy that gives people visions of excellent dishes when asked what is there that Italy can offer up that really does not involve seeing buildings from a time in the past, well basically, Tuscany really comes up a lot. First off, you’ll want, naturally, to eat, or to take advantage of all there is to the restaurants, but like I have been saying this whole entire time, if not that, maybe try and find something smaller where you can chow on something authentic. If I can suggest something specific, actually, Pici pasta would almost be perfect, since the regional spin they do on pasta is unique to say the least, in some respects. Try all the local cheeses on top to be sure of a treat.

Tuscan Food Cortona

A Culinary Adventure

Honestly, do some scouting around for spots in the town, still, just see where one can check out Tuscan cooking. Honestly, something you’ll find that I really enjoyed over there is learning about a very big piece of Italy. To be honest, most visitors say learning these arts is really worth doing, but like if that doesn’t click for someone, still, a foodie walking tour in the area around town could possibly take things to even another place that doesn’t have to have much involvement with cooking directly.

Finding the right spot to spend some time there

To start with, right, finding lodging to suit all preferences almost really does go a long way for a better trip. So, there are some cozy places inside old buildings to be sure, so that could be exactly up anyone’s alley, then again, there really might be countryside inns that are just that much farther away. The general feeling, by the way, with that location is for anyone to consider a good few spots well before coming to see whether that will make you have less, if I may be so very free, things needing done while on arrival there. Then that can mean seeing things can get so very streamlined if someone has done that, therefore don’t ever just see one choice or spot, basically.

Making certain preparations ahead

So it tends to be very obvious to any of us going someplace far to maybe ensure arrangements well ahead of arriving, still, someone really needs to keep very many specific things on their mind when looking to explore spots over in Cortona. What you see there would have someone very excited, not just what everyone else says, so just know ahead when there may very likely have been just that many visitors or not a lot. And actually be just that ready to have transport from the town when doing those jaunts for an entire afternoon somewhere a little different as well.
